About Haiti Sun

Original title first published 1950

Haiti Sun takes its name from a newspaper first published in the country in 1950. Just as its predecessor did, the current day Haiti Sun, which is an online newspaper, has as its main focus Haiti news.

Officially the Republic of Haiti, the nation is situated on the island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean Sea. It forms the western three-eighths of the island, which it shares with the Dominican Republic.

Haiti Sun, in addition to targeting the nation as a whole, the second-biggest in terms of population in the Caribbean region, relays news from the capital and largest city, Port-au-Prince, and other major cities including Cap-Haitien, Carrefour, Delmas Petion-Ville, Port-de-Paix, Croix des Bouquets, Jacmel, Leogane and Les Cayes. The portal also provides headline news from around Latin America, as well as delivering international and business news.

The digital edition of Haiti Sun was conceived in 2002 and activated in 2004.

Mission: Haiti Sun was conceived in 2002 to provide up-to-the minute national news, together with international headlines as part of a global network pooling resources to deliver a quality service to member portals. Each online publication has been modelled on a newspaper format for familiar readability by users. The locations forming part of the network were selected on the basis of demand for news for that location. Haiti Sun, effectively an online newspaper, provides coverage of the country and the region. International news, business and finance stories are common across the network of sites, and are drawn from a number of sources including original in-house journalists and wire services.

Haiti Sun and the other sites are administered by Midwest Radio Network.
