Cape Town - Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced that Kieron Pollard has been appointed captain of the ODI and T20I sides.
Pollard, who has not played in the 50-over format for the Windies in three years, will take over the ODI leadership role from Jason Holder while Carlos Brathwaite previously held the T20I captaincy.
Holder will continue to be the Caribbean team's skipper in Test cricket but West Indies' poor showing at this year's World Cup, where they only won two matches, contributed to the changes made by the board.
"The election task force also recommended the immediate introduction of 'red ball' and 'white ball' captains to support a long-term strategy to focus on the different formats of international cricket," said CWI in a statement.
"Kieron Pollard is being appointed 'white ball' captain for both the ODI and T20I teams with Jason Holder continuing as 'red ball' captain for the Test team as CWI seeks to see an improvement in performances and therefore ICC World Rankings as part of the long-term development strategy."
"I'm truly honoured to be appointed captain of the West Indies and I would like to thank Cricket West Indies' board of directors for placing their faith and confidence in me," said Pollard.
"I can't wait to work with the coaching staff and players as we start building towards future World Cups and give the fans more reasons to get behind the team."
