ABU DHABI, 16th June, 2022 (WAM) -- Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), said the decision of the Latin America and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) to make the UAE, represented by the FNC, an observer member will strengthen the cooperation between the two sides and support the efforts to enhance the economic, social, cultural and political relations between the UAE and Latin American countries.
Ghobash made this statement during a virtual event that witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at reinforcing the bilateral ties between the two sides.
The MoU was signed by Ghobash and Silvia del Rosario Giacoppo, Speaker of Parlatino.
During the signing, both sides highlighted the importance of boosting the parliamentary cooperation between the FNC and Parlatino, as well as their mutual commitment to promoting parliamentary dialogue and consultations, to capitalise on available opportunities to strengthen their bilateral ties, in line with a previous MoU signed in December 2016.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Naam Mayara, Chairman of the Council of Councillors of Morocco and President of the Association of Senates, Shura Councils and Similar Councils in Africa and the Arab World; Dr. Tariq Humaid Al Tayer, Head of the Emirati-Latin American and North American Parliaments Friendship Committee of the FNC; FNC members Maryam bin Thaniah and Saeed Al Abidi; Dr. Omar Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the FNC, and Afraa Al Busti, Assistant Secretary-General for Parliamentary Communication.
"The MoU's signing is taking place under the framework of enhancing the cooperation between the two sides, which will help enhance the historic friendship between the UAE and Latin American countries," Ghobash said.
Ghobash also invited del Rosario Giacoppo to visit the UAE.
